Featured Artist: I Wayan Mawan
I Wayan Mawan is a sculptist from Buruan Blahbatuh Village. Since childhood he has been interested in wood carving. The nature and culture around his village really inspired him. Wayan Mawan is very careful in choosing the quality of wood he uses. Franjapani is his wood of choice because the fiber is smooth and it’s easy for his imagination to find the shape. Making these large sculptures can take up to 1-2 years. I Wayan Mawan lives with his Wife, 2 children, & 4 grand kids in Blahbatuh, Bali Indonesia. His work is being passed on through his 5 apprentices.
